Background of the Study
Access to quality nursing care is a critical aspect of health systems worldwide, and in Nigeria, it plays a significant role in overall healthcare outcomes. However, in Northern Nigeria, several barriers hinder individuals from receiving high-quality nursing care. These barriers range from infrastructural challenges, lack of healthcare personnel, socioeconomic issues, and cultural factors that often inhibit individuals from seeking professional nursing services (Aliyu et al., 2023). The healthcare system in Northern Nigeria has been strained by factors such as inadequate healthcare funding, rurality, traditional beliefs, and conflicts, particularly in the northeast, where insurgency has displaced millions, including healthcare workers.
Nurses in Northern Nigeria face unique challenges in delivering quality care. High nurse-patient ratios, insufficient resources, and limited professional development opportunities are just some of the systemic issues that compromise the quality of care provided (Adebayo et al., 2024). Moreover, the socioeconomic status of patients, cultural perceptions of healthcare, and gender roles often affect whether individuals, especially women and children, access nursing care (Aliyu & Bello, 2024). This study aims to investigate the barriers to accessing quality nursing care in Northern Nigeria, focusing on both the systemic and individual-level factors that contribute to these challenges.
Statement of the Problem
Quality nursing care is essential for improving health outcomes, yet many individuals in Northern Nigeria face barriers that prevent them from accessing these services. Factors such as inadequate healthcare infrastructure, insufficient nursing staff, cultural beliefs, and the effects of conflict have made it difficult for people in the region to benefit from quality nursing care. Despite the importance of these services, these barriers persist, leading to poor health outcomes, especially in rural areas. This study seeks to identify and understand the various barriers to accessing quality nursing care and propose solutions to address these challenges.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on identifying the barriers to quality nursing care in Northern Nigeria, with a particular emphasis on the northeastern and northwestern regions. Limitations include potential regional differences in healthcare accessibility and challenges in obtaining comprehensive data due to the vast size and diversity of the region.
